13 Deeply Discounted Indie Gems From Steam's 2023 Spring Sale

I don’t often do “hey, here’s a list of games you should buy” style posts, but honestly, maybe I should. There’s so fricken many wonderful indie games out there that not only deserve love, but can be picked up for an absolute pittance. So, here we are - 13 top picks from the 2023 Steam Spring Sale you can and should pickup for mere pocket change. (In case anyone outside Australia is hitting this list, these prices are in AUD).

Live By The Sword: Tactics

90% off / $2.19

Less than 6 months old, with a bunch of massive updates added to the game since, including a roguelike mode, local and online multiplayer and a map builder. This feels like a last ditch push to gain some traction, and the game more than deserves it.

Among Trees

60% off / $8.60

A survival game that's a bit more surface level. More about living amongst nature for a little while, not spending 100s of hours building a vast impenetrable bunker. Lowest price it's been ever.

Morels: The Hunt

75% off / $7.23

A chill open world game about finding mushrooms and taking pictures of nature. This article by Jay Castello absolutely drew me into this gem.

Eidolon

80% off / $4.30

A contemplative wandering game in a post human expanse. It's a little more experimental for this type of game, especially for 2014. Tenderfoot Tactics is also bloody fantastic from dev Badru.

Tales From Off-Peak City Vol. 1

50% off / $7.25

Another dev with a stellar catalogue which are all worth playing. Tales is my favourite - it hits something so deep and radical about capitalistic systems and the art of pizza making that just... it's hard to explain.

Titan Chaser

75% off / $1.87

A thick with atmosphere first person driving game about chasing off massive titanic creatures with naught but yourself, your tunes and your trusty car.

Vessels

70% off / $2.55

An excellently told narrative aboad a space ship with a distrustful crew.

Magnus Diptych Bundle

75% off / $5.19

The Magnus games are mesmerizing, inscrutible and utterly compelling. The first isn't on sale, but I particularly love Failure's tactilility and isometric viewpoint. They are all fairly short, but more than worth it.

Unexplored

50% off / $7.50

My favourite roguelike (yes, even over Hades). it's ambition far outmatches it's graphics, but the way you can storytell here is phenomenal.

Gedonia

50% off / $10.25

Straight up indie BOTW crossed with Skyrim. It's amazing how this was created by one person honestly.

Star Explorers

40% off / $4.50

Imagine if the OG No Man's Sky forwent the safer, somewhat homogenized expanse that always guaranteed you would find the resources you need, and instead got... interesting. Janky, bold, constantly updated, experimental.

SFD : Rogue TRPG

80% off / $2.30

A condensed, focused and excellently built tactics roguelike. All honed gameplay, no cruft.

Iris and the Giant

70% off / $7.78

A story based tactics game with a conclusive arc after a good 8 hours. appears extremely tough in the beginning, but the way it unfolds its build possibilities alongside your grasp of the mechanics and enemies is excellent.
